Severe Thunderstorms Possible Today

Many folks may see multiple rounds of showers and storms today. The first wave this morning will consist of light showers and a few storms, but severe weather is not expected. A cold front sliding southeastward this afternoon will be the focus for renewed thunderstorm development, some of which may become severe. Storms are expected to develop in south-central Minnesota around 1-3pm, moving east-southeast through the afternoon. The storms should exit the region this evening, though most areas will only see storms for a 2-3 hour window this afternoon. If you have outdoor plans, have ways to keep up with current weather information and know where to seek shelter should a storm approach you.

There is the potential for severe storms today accompanied by locally heavy rain, hail, and gusty winds. The main timing for the severe threat will be 2 pm to 8 pm. The threat of tornadoes has generally diminished. However, an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out across portions of northeast Iowa into far southwest WI. Outdoor plans today? Pay close attention to the forecast.
