It’s a sad time in , South Dakota. Residents in the state’s largest city are mourning an urban cornstalk that had been growing up through a crack in the concrete at the intersection of 57th Street and Minnesota Avenue. Dubbed the 57th Street Corn, the plant even had its own Twitter account, and was treated as a symbol of resiliency and hope as the pandemic continues. Residents reported Wednesday morning that someone had ripped out the lone stalk, prompting an outcry on social media. Someone even attached a sign to a traffic post where the stalk grew that reads, “CORN RIP.”
Hi everyone. This is Corn’s brother tweeting from his account. Corn was brutally beaten last night after a confrontation w a pedestrian. The assailant got away and Corn is no longer with us. Please send any prayers to my family as we’re all really hurting. Lots of love ❤️ https://t.co/xq0Bkcmb8b
