Power was knocked out for part of a New Jersey town this week and the cause of the outage sounds a little fishy.
A large section of Sayreville was knocked off the grid for several hours and a repair crew concluded that the transformer exploded when a bird flying overhead dropped a fish onto it. Sayreville sits on the water so it’s not unusual for a seagull to pluck a fish out of the ocean and fly off with it. The humor of the situation was not lost on the local police department which urged residents in a Facebook post not to forget the “victim in this senseless death,” referring to the fish as “Gilligan.” The post continues, “Gilligan was a hard working family man. He was a father to thousands of children. The suspect was last seen flying South. If you see him do not try to apprehend him. Although he isn’t believed to be armed he may still be very dangerous. If you have any information in this case please contact Detective John Silver who handles all of our fish cases.”
