A new viral video shows why you should always cook your food thoroughly. The video was apparently taken at an Asian restaurant and shows a piece of raw chicken begin to move as it crawls off the plate and falls on the floor. Commenters noted that sometimes when meat is so fresh the muscles can still move.

One of the six 27-foot-long Wienermobiles will be parked in Chicago and will be available for three individual overnight stays on August 1st, 2nd and 3rd. If you’re wondering, the rate was listed at $136 per night. Of course, it’ll have a mini-fridge stocked with all of your hot dog needs, Wienermobile-inspired art and more.
Belgium’s Jimmy De Frenne recently spent 116 consecutive hours sitting on a toilet in a local bar. However, it had nothing to do with greasy bar food, but a bid to set a new Guinness World Record for sitting on the commode. De Frenne was allowed five-minute breaks every hour to stretch and use a real toilet since the one used was only on display in the bar.
If you thought this weekend was steamy, remember 24 years ago? I was only nine at the time, but I kinda remember staying indoors for most part during this heatwave. Take a look some of the highs and stats from that heatwave. -EK
A couple in Michigan had a “Make America Great Again” themed wedding over the 4th of July holiday. The bride Audra Johnson said, “It looked like America threw up all over my wedding and I’m not sorry”!
Here’s another reason to work out in the morning … you’ll make more money. A new survey found that people with a strict morning routine — whether it’s working out, meditating, doing yoga, or writing in a journal or earn more money than those who don’t have a regular a.m. routine. According to the survey, by The Sleep Judge, people with a consistent morning routine earn $12,500 more per year than those with a lazier approach to mornings. And those who exercised in the mornings had the highest salaries of the survey respondents. (Best Life)
A woman in Georgia asked Dairy Queen to make a birthday cake for her 25-year-old daughter, who loves the Disney movie “Moana.” But the people at the Dairy Queen thought she said marijuana. So the cake had a big pot leaf on it, and a My Little Pony smoking a joint. Fortunately they thought it was funny. The daughter thinks it happened because her mom has a thick southern accent.
UPDATE: It turns out that it wasn’t so much their name that got CONFEDERATE RAILROAD booted from the DuQuoin State Fair in Illinois. They were to perform with SHENANDOAH and RESTLESS HEART and officials now say they were axed because of the Confederate flag in their logo. Shenandoah says it will still play but that “this ‘political correctness’ has to stop. It’s tearing our country apart.”
CONFEDERATE RAILROAD has been dropped from the lineup at the Du Quoin State Fair in Illinois and it’s all because of their name. A rep for the fair said, “While every artist has a right to expression, we believe this decision is in the best interest of serving all of the people in our state.” They were to have joined SHENANDOAH and RESTLESS HEART, as part of “’90s Country ReLoaded Day” at the fair.
A video of a woman licking a tub of Blue Bell ice cream before putting it back in a grocery store freezer is grossing people out.
The video was posted Saturday with the caption, “What kinda psychopathic behavior is this?!” It was viewed more than 10 million times as of last night and, weirdly enough, liked more than 61,000 times. Blue Bell said they’re monitoring the situation and cooperating with authorities. Some people on Twitter have called for the woman’s arrest, while Blue Bell says that the way their cartons are sealed should make any tampering visible if you look closely.
Alabama is celebrating a half-century of making music with their current 50th Anniversary Tour. The cross-country trek kicked off in January with an announced run of more than 50 shows through November, featuring an array of openers, including Charlie Daniels Band, The Marshall Tucker Band, The Beach Boys, John Anderson, Restless Heart, Exile, John Michael Montgomery, Scotty McCreery and more.
On Nov. 20, Alabama will wind down their final tour with a stop at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena for the End of Tour Celebration, featuring Charlie Daniels. Tickets for the newly announced date go on sale on June 28 at 10 a.m.
Since forming the band in 1969, Alabama’s Randy Owen, Teddy Gentry and Jeff Cook have become the most-awarded band in the history of country music.
“Our 50th Anniversary Tour has been really special with The Charlie Daniels Band being at most cities we’ve played,” says Teddy. “We could call this the Country Music Hall of Fame Tour. Three generations of fans now sing along to our songs each night.”
“It’s hard to believe we started this band 50 years ago in my parent’s house,” adds Jeff. “The Nashville concert at Bridgestone Arena will be a fun celebration for the fans and for Randy, Teddy and me.”
“This tour has been amazing,” notes Randy. “We are humbled by the huge response and sell-out crowds. Ending in Nashville with this End of Tour Celebration will give us a chance to invite some of our friends to join us. We are thankful to all the fans for supporting us over the past 50 years.”
The World’s Ugliest Dog has been crowned at California’s Sonoma-Marin Fair. The winner, if you want to call it that, was “Scamp the Tramp,” who was rescued off the streets of Compton and now lives in Santa Rosa, California. Scamp has gray dreadlocks, frizzy fur and a tongue that hangs out and has been the Sebastopol Senior Center’s therapist dog for the past seven years.
GRANGER SMITH and his wife, Amber Bartlett, have shared a tribute video to their late son, River Kelly Smith, who died in a drowning accident several weeks ago. Granger recalled the night it happened as he was watching his kids play in the yard and telling himself to, ‘Soak up this moment because it’s not going to last forever.’ Granger went on to say, “Somewhere between 30 seconds and three minutes Amber and I are inside our pool gate doing CPR on our son.”

This morning we had a chance to talk with Jack Meggers Producer/Director of the short film “The Burial”, which was shot in Allamakee County. Jack talked about the movie and the premiere at TJ Hunters Banquet Hall in Lansing on Thursday night. Take a listen!
Lansing, IA – June 5th, 2019
Mason City native, Iowa State graduate, and 2017-18 Iowa Arts Council Artist Fellow Jack Meggers will be hosting the premiere screening of his short film, The Burial, at TJ Hunter’s in Lansing, IA at 7pm, Thursday, June 20th, 2019. The screening will also be hosted by Allamakee County Economic Development and Tourism.
Last August, Meggers completed principal photography for his short film produced in and around Lansing, IA. Since filming was completed, Meggers has been working on the editing and finishing of his film and is very excited to debut it for many of the people that helped in its creation.
A Q&A session will follow the screening and will be attended by Meggers and his lead actress, Nokomis Leaman-Logsdon, all the way from New York City.
Parents of young children are cautioned: there is some adult language in the film.
The film follows Abby, a young woman of Native American and Caucasian descent (played by New York actress Nokomis Leaman-Logsdon), as she returns to her childhood home in NE Iowa. After receiving word that her estranged father has passed away, she returns to settle her father’s affairs, only to fall in with some childhood friends and ignore her responsibilities. The group makes a startling discovery in the woods and must deal with the consequences of their poor decisions.
This screening is the first of two planned screenings. The second will take place in Des Moines on June 22nd and will be held at the State of Iowa Historical Museum auditorium at 4:30pm.
The natural beauty of the driftless area in the NE corner of Iowa is featured in this short, proof-of-concept film. Meggers wishes to extend great thanks to everyone in Allamakee County and beyond that made this film possible.
Seems a lot of young adults aren’t concerned about B.O. A new poll by YouGov found that almost 40% of 18- to 24-year-olds said they hadn’t used deodorant or antiperspirant in the last month. 31% of those 25 to 34 said they hadn’t used deodorant or antiperspirant in the past 30 days. 22% of those 35 to 44 said they hadn’t used either in the last month. And just 16% of 45- to 54-year-olds said they hadn’t used deodorant in the last 30 days.
How long would you wait to go on a ride at a theme park? On Tuesday, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando opened a new ride called Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. The three-minute ride takes people into the Forbidden Forest and it’s reported that some fans waited 10 hours to go on it. The good news is that a virtual line app goes online today that should cut down wait times.
I was trying to figure out what artist had multiple Dad/Father songs. Then, it came to me! Paul Overstreet! Take a listen to his “Fatherly” hits below. -EK
Actor and comedian Tim Allen turns 66 today (Thursday). Allen has had starring roles on TV’s Home Improvement, the Santa Clause movies and as the voice of Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story series. I’am a HUGE Home Improvement fan, so I found a You Tube video that has every single grunt from Home Improvement…YES EVERY TIM TAYLOR GRUNT! Enjoy! -EK
I’m sure someone, somewhere will disagree, but in my experience, any time I’ve ever had a flat tire, it couldn’t have happened at a more inconvenient time. I’m in a rush, I’m in the middle of nowhere, I’m in a sketchy neighborhood, the weather is horrendous…you know the routine. Well, here’s some positive news: The tire company Michelin says that we may be driving on airless tires by 2024…which would mean no flat tires…ever. They announced last week that “UPTIS”, their ‘unique puncture-proof tire system” goes into testing this year, and if all goes well, airless tires could be in use on passenger cars in 5 years. The tire features a “rib” design between the aluminum wheel and the outer tread. It is made of composite rubber and high-strength resin-embedded fiberglass that offers the give and durability that a vehicle tire requires. Michelin says besides the advantage of never experiencing blowouts or flat tires, airless tires would also mean we never have to carry a spare, resulting in lighter and more fuel-efficient cars on the road. There would also be an environmental benefit, as fewer tires would be scrapped as a result of blowouts, and there will be fewer emissions at the manufacturing level, because no spare or replacement tires would need to be made.
(My son has been driving around on airless tires for 2 years…on his trike!)
(Has anyone told the police that they are going to have to come up with a new idea to replace their spike belts?)
If you want to keep the mosquitoes away this summer, start jamming to Skrillex! Researchers have found that playing electronic music resulted in a lower chance of getting bit by skeeters. Researchers noted that in insects, low-frequency vibrations facilitate sexual interactions and make them less likely to bite. However, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention still says the most effective way to avoid mosquito bites is to use insect repellent, wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants, and to empty any items that may hold standing water.
Take a listen to some Skrillex below…sounds like it could keep a lot things away ;)
River Kelly Smith, the 3-year-old son of Granger Smith and wife Amber, has died “following a tragic accident.”
Granger made the announcement via a statement released by his PR team, which you can read below.
I have to deliver unthinkable news. We’ve lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith. Following a tragic accident, and despite doctor’s best efforts, he was unable to be revived. Amber and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life. Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father. Riv was special. Everyone that met him knew that immediately. The joy he brought to our lives cannot be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts. If there are words to say more, I cannot find them in this moment. Love the ones close to you. There has never been a more difficult moment for us than this.
Thank you,
Granger Smith
In lieu of sympathies, the Smith family asks that donations be made in the name of River Kelly Smith to Dell Children?s Medical Center.
Seventy-five years after he jumped out of plane on D-Day, a 97-year-old veteran paratrooper repeated the feat in the same area of northern France. In June 1944, Tom Rice was serving with the 101st Airborne Division. Rice was part of the massive D-Day invasion that put Allied troops on the ground in Normandy. He called that jump the worst one he ever had. Take a look at the video below:
That’s the correct response to the answer: This is when James Holzhauer’s winning streak on Jeopardy will end.
That leaked clip was the real thing. Holzhauer has gone down after 32 straight wins. We know this because Jeopardy has already aired in a few markets in the eastern part of the U.S. He lost by $22,000 to a librarian from Chicago named Emma Boettcher.
He’d gotten within $60,000 or so of record-holder Ken Jennings‘s total winnings — although it took Jennings more than twice as long to amass his $2.52 million back in 2004.
Holzhauer gave Boettcher a high-five after she won, and said in an interview after the taping, “Nobody likes to lose. But I’m very proud of how I did, and I really exceeded my own expectations for the show. So I don’t feel bad about it.” (The New York Times)
She’s a current judge on America’s Got Talent, she’s done movies, she was a dancer on Dancing With The Stars…… do you remember that Julianne Hough tried the country music thing about 10 years ago? She had some minor success on the charts, her debut self-titled album did hit #1 on the country charts in 2008. She’s hasn’t done much with singing since….probably busy with other projects. Take a listen to her songs below!
There was a scary moment during last night’s Chicago Cubs game when Albert Almora hit a foul ball that struck a young girl in the stands. Witnesses say the girl was conscious as the parents rushed her away. Almora was visibly shaken and appeared to be crying when he later went over to the area where the girl was hit and was comforted by a security guard.
Take a look at this crazy video shot last night outside of Montezuma, IA. It looks like a tornado building in the background, and a group of kids still warming up for a baseball game. Love the dedication, but would not recommend that.
The Chicago White Sox invited their Employee of the Month to throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to Monday’s game against the Kansas City Royals. The employee may have to turn in her award as the pitch never got to the plate, but instead struck a cameraman off to the side.

The Indianapolis 500 is coming up this weekend and, no, you’re not the first person to ever wonder what happens if the drivers have to go to the bathroom during the race. While drivers are sick of hearing the question, some of them shared. Since it gets hot in the cars, drivers have to stay hydrated, but the water has to go somewhere. Some drivers go as close to the start of the race as possible, while others try to hold it in until the end of the race. Reigning series champ Will Power admits that he pees himself in the car, while others say that’s not as easy as it seems, with Graham Rahal saying he waits until he’s on the straightaway to do it.
