This summer, communities around Spirit Lake, Iowa, have been affected by heavy rains and flooding. Daily routines have been disrupted and property has been damaged.
The softball team in Spirit Lake wanted to do something to help nearby teams get back to normal, so they collected sports equipment and donations – and offered it to the competing teams in a gesture of friendship.
Thanks to the thoughtfulness and generosity of the players in Spirit Lake, the nearby teams were able to resume normal practices while the flood waters receded.
The coach of the one of the nearby teams – Kait Van Der Zwaag – was amazed by the effort.
“It was heartwarming,” said Kait. “You just don’t have any other words to say for that, it’s literally like that’s what northwest Iowa is.”
