Kansas Man Wants To Legalize Pet Racoons

20 states allow keeping a raccoon as a pet, but Stephen Kaspar is on a mission to make Kansas the 21st. Kaspar is pushing to pass a bill that would legalize keeping a vaccinated raccoon as long as owners take the animal for regular checkups. Kaspar himself has been training wild raccoons for years, and calls them the “highlight of my life.” However, Representative and Biologist Doug Blex is against the move. “Once it grows up … it is going to be mean and nasty when it comes breeding season,” Blex said. “I’ve seen more damage done from pet raccoons than you can believe.” A formal decision is yet to come.
