The National Weather Service in La Crosse WI has issued a Flood Warning for the following rivers in Iowa…
Turkey River at Spillville affecting Winneshiek County.
Turkey River at Elkader affecting Clayton County.
.A strong low pressure system will lift through Minnesota this afternoon bringing additional precipitation amounts of 1 to 2 inches. This river basin has already seen 1.5 to 3 inches of precipitation and the river has begun to rise rapidly at Spillville. With additional precipitation expected and the river already responding, will issue a flood warning for Spillville and Elkader at this time.
* WHAT…Minor flooding is forecast.
* WHERE…Turkey River at Spillville.
* WHEN…From this evening to tomorrow evening.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
– At 10:30 AM CDT Tuesday the stage was 4.9 feet.
– Bankfull stage is 8.0 feet.
– Forecast…The river is expected to rise above flood stage this evening to a crest of 10.9 feet tomorrow morning. It will then fall below flood stage tomorrow afternoon.
– Flood stage is 9.0 feet.
– Flood History…This crest compares to a previous crest of 10.9 feet on 04/29/1991.

* IMPACTS…At 12.0 feet, Minor flooding occurs in areas near the
river.

– At 10:45 AM CDT Tuesday the stage was 7.1 feet.
– Bankfull stage is 12.0 feet.
– Forecast…The river is expected to rise above flood stage late tonight to a crest of 13.8 feet Thursday morning. It will then fall below flood stage early Friday morning.
– Flood stage is 12.0 feet.
– Flood History…This crest compares to a previous crest of 13.8 feet on 02/27/2023.
