With large gatherings of people now cancelled to due to the coronavirus pandemic, one Michigan couple has come up with a clever way for their wedding ceremony to not feel so empty.

Dan Stuglik and Amy Simonson had been planning their wedding for months, and they were supposed to have around 160 guests attend the ceremony when the big day finally came.

With the current pandemic putting the clamps on those plans, Dan and Amy decided that they would replace their friends and family members with cardboard cutouts in the church pews.

Stuglik told WSBT-TV, “I didn’t like the idea of Amy having to walk down the aisle with no one in the pews, that seemed like a very lonely walk, so I wanted something to represent the guests.”

After Dan went to a packaging company to see if they could create the cardboard cutouts of the guests, the company actually brought in a designer and engineer to make them and donated all the supplies.

While they would’ve rather had the real guests in attendance, Dan said, “We know that they’re still there in spirit even if they’re not in the building to watch.”
