Blizzard Warning and Winter Weather Advisory Start Tonight

HEAVY SNOW AND STRONG WINDS LATE TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY

Rain will change over to snow and become heavy at times overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday. Several inches of snow are expected across much of the region with highest amounts across southeast Minnesota. Winds will increase overnight where the combination of wind gusts as high as 45 to 55 mph and heavier snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour will lead to blizzard conditions at times west of the Mississippi River. Motorists should exercise abundant caution for the Wednesday morning commute with travel not recommended during blizzard conditions.

BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM THIS EVENING TO 3 PM CST WEDNESDAY…

* WHAT…Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 9 inches. Localized higher amounts may be possible. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.

* WHERE…A portion of southeast Minnesota including Fillmore County.

* WHEN…From 9 PM this evening to 3 PM CST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS…Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday morning commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

 

BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 3 PM CST WEDNESDAY…

* WHAT…Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 5 inches. Winds gusting as high as 55 mph.

* WHERE…Floyd, Mitchell, Chickasaw, and Howard Counties.

* WHEN…From midnight tonight to 3 PM CST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS…Plan on slippery road conditions. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday morning commute. Strong winds could cause tree damage.

* WHAT…Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.

* WHERE…In Iowa, Allamakee and Winneshiek County. In Wisconsin, Vernon County. In Minnesota, Houston County.

* WHEN…From 3 AM to 6 PM CST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS…Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday morning and evening commutes. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

 

WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM TO 6 PM CST WEDNESDAY…

* WHAT…North winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.

* WHERE…Clayton, Fayette, and Winneshiek Counties.

* WHEN…From 6 AM to 6 PM CST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS…Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
