On Monday, Cleveland Guardians outfielder Will Brennan hit a line drive single to left field during the Guardians game against the Chicago White Sox. Unfortunately, that line drive struck and killed a bird that had been hopping around on the field. Brennan tweeted an apology and tagged People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) in the message. “I truly am sorry @peta and bird enthusiasts. An unfortunate sacrifice.” As you may know, it’s been a strange — and rough — baseball season for birds so far, as Arizona Diamondback pitcher Zac Gallen accidentally hit a bird with a warmup pitch just a week ago.
